Scottish Government’s Good Practice Principles for Community Benefits from Offshore Renewables has been released. Launched  by Local Energy Scotland, the document outlines the Scottish Government's expectations of developers and stakeholders in the offshore industry.

In line with the onshore counterpart, the Scottish Government wishes to see Scotland’s communities sharing in the benefits of the country’s rich natural resources. Developers are encouraged to consider and adhere to the document on any forthcoming offshore renewable energy projects.

Following the publication of the document today, Mr Ewing, Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism commented, “The launch of the Scottish Government’s Good Practice Principles outlines our commitment to ensuring that local groups across Scotland have the opportunity to maximise benefit from renewable energy. Over £9 million is provided annually to Scottish community groups from onshore renewable energy projects, and there is scope to build on this success with forthcoming offshore projects. We are pleased to be leading the UK in setting out high-level expectations for the provision of voluntary measures from offshore renewable energy projects.”

The document outlines Scottish Government expectations, alongside helpful background information and further guidance for developers and other stakeholders.
