DamenThe 151m DP2 jack-up vessel Seafox 5 has arrived on the Merkur offshore wind farm loaded with the first wind turbine components. The vessel left the Port of Eemshaven earlier this week where it was loaded out ready for turbine installation.

A total of 66 GE Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines are to be installed at the German site and works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2018.

The Seafox 5 was recently berthed in Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) shipyard for a four-month refit. Works included the lengthening of the vessel's Liebherr crane boom along with a range of maintenance and other upgrade works.

Merkur will cover a 47kmĀ² area and is located approximately 45km north of the Borkum island in the North Sea. The project will have a 396MW capacity and completion is scheduled for the end of 2019. It is anticipated to provide renewable energy to around 500,000 households annually.
