Seaproof Solutions scores German supply

Seaproof Solutions has secured a contract with Jan De Nul for the supply of Cable Protection Systems (CPS) for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 and Trianel Windpark Borkum II projects off the coast of Germany.

The contract covers the design and supply of CPS to be used for the export cable connecting Borkum Riffgrund 2 to the DolWin Gamma platform; and the Trianel Windpark Borkum II construction phase wind farm to the DolWin Alpha platform.

Seaproof Solutions stated that its CPS system takes into account physical interface to the foundations and environmental parameters, whilst guaranteeing a minimum design life of 30 years.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is located 54km off the coast of Lower Saxony, next to another of DONG's wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 1. The project will feature 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW turbines, each with a 8MW capacity, covering an area of 36km². Installation works are scheduled to commence in the first half of 2018 and it is expected to be fully commissioned by the end of 2019. Once operational it is expected to meet the energy demands of 460,000 German households.

The final investment decision for the Trianel Windpark Borkum II offshore wind farm was made on 7th April and offshore construction is expected to commence in spring 2018. The project is supported by 20 shareholders from Germany and Switzerland for investment totalling around €800m. The wind farm will consist of 32 Senvion 6.2M152 turbines with a power upgrade, and will be installed in a water depth of 25 to 35m.
