SeaRoc maintenance on Dogger Bank Met Masts

The SeaRoc Group has successfully completed a maintenance visit to the two Forewind meteorological masts, installed at the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm site in 2013.

The SeaRoc team consisting of 9 personnel including an operations manager, rope access riggers and engineers undertook inspections and scheduled maintenance on both sites.

Dogger Bank Met Mast East, located approximately 100 kilometres from the UK coast due east of Newcastle, and Dogger Bank Met Mast West, sited 150 kilometres from the coast. SeaRoc were responsible for all maintenance tasks including inspecting the ZephIR lidar installed by SeaRoc in May 2015 on Dogger Bank Met Mast East.

SeaRoc has been working with Forewind on the project since November 2011 having provided the topsides and maintenance services since installation.

The recent maintenance trip which is part of an ongoing maintenance programme which consisted of a vessel crew of 20 plus a team of 22 personnel including representatives from Forewind as well as the project’s other marine contractors.

The crew aboard the VOS Sympathy departed from Newcastle on the 11th September. The trip was expected to take 15 days however it was completed completed ahead of schedule, finishing on the 20th September.

The met masts are collecting essential meteorological data including wind, wave, atmospheric and marine traffic for the four potential wind farms in the Dogger Bank Zone.  Dogger Bank Creyke Beck A, Dogger Bank Creyke Beck B, Dogger Bank Teesside A and Dogger Bank Teesside B.
