Wind turbine manufacturer, Senvion has secured a contract to deliver offshore turbines for the Trianel Windpark Borkum II project in the German North Sea.

At the WindEnergy Hamburg event the conditional contract for the turbine delivery as well as service for the wind farm Trianel Borkum II (TWB II) has been signed with project developers Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co KG.

The 203MW Trianel Windpark Borkum II project will consist of 32 Senvion 6.2M152 model turbines which will be installed in a water depths between 25 to 35m approximately 45km north of the island Borkum. The turbines, equipped with a power upgrade, are expected to produce around 800 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, enough to supply around 210,000 households annually. Completion is expected in autumn 2019.

Jürgen Geissinger, CEO of Senvion, says: "We appreciate the confidence that the project-consortium Trianel shows in our turbines. This contract confirms that we are setting standards in the cost-effective generation of offshore wind energy and we will further consolidate our strong position in the offshore wind-energy market with the Senvion 6.2M152."

According to the current schedule, the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project should be taken in the first half of 2017. With the FID in place construction could start early 2018.

Klaus Horstick, Managing Director of TWB II stated that until the investment decision has been taken, further local partners shall be recruited.

Trianel Borkum II will be installed close to the Alpha Ventus project, which started operations in 2009 and is equipped with six 5M 126 Senvion offshore turbines.

Yesterday, Alpha Ventus project developers signed a contract with Deutsche Windtechnik to provide service for six Senvion 5M turbines at the German project.

The contract, starting in January 2017, will run for five years and covers remote monitoring, scheduled maintenance and comprehensive service at cost for the six turbines, including possible replacement of large components and stockpiling of spare parts.
