SKWID sinks off Tokyo

A floating turbine owned by MODEC has sunk into waters just before daylight on December 18th 2014, the turbine named SKWID used lubricating oils however a spill has been denied

There is no environmental contamination in the waters and no personnel have been injured in the incident.

The whole detail regarding the incident have not yet been released but actions are being taken on site to safeguard the environment and keep engineers safe.

As weather conditions are quite dangerous salvaging cannot take place, once conditions are suitable salvaging of the SKWID will be carried out.  

Back on October 12th 2013 MODEC also managed to sink a water wheel off a barge as the device was being transported to the installation site. After the incident happened the testing of the turbine was postponed.
