SMC provide marine co-ordination at Gode Wind

Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC) are providing offshore Marine Coordination for Siemens on Gode Wind 1 & 2.

Gode Wind 1 & 2, in the German part of the North Sea, is a DONG Energy project. SMC, based on the UK Yorkshire coast, are undertaking offshore Marine Coordination for Siemens Wind Power. They have previously worked with Siemens on numerous wind farm projects in the UK. SMC are presently providing Marine Coordination on Butendiek, Baltic 2 and Borkum Riffgrund.

Ian Coates, SMC MD said “We have a long history of working with Siemens, providing Marine Coordination using our ATLAS Marine Coordination System. This contract builds on a successful and on-going partnership with Siemens. We understand their requirements, and how best to utilise the use of CTV’s in the most safe and efficient way.”

Earlier this week Bladt completed their final loadout for the Gode Wind offshore wind farm. A total of 97 transition pieces were fabricated at Bladt's Aalborg facility, where as the monopiles were fabricated by EEW SPC in Rostock, Germany. The first turbine was installed in early August this year.

The Gode Wind 1 and 2 offshore wind farm is scheduled to go into operation in 2016. It is located 33 kilometres from the German islands of Juist and Norderney. With a total capacity of 582 megawatts, the 97 SWT-4.0-120 Siemens 6MW wind turbines will generate enough green electricity to supply 600,000 German households.
