wpd (MPI Enterpise at Nordergründe)The final Senvion 6.2M126 turbine has been installed at the Nordergründe offshore wind farm. Work began mid August  and was undertaken by the MPI Enterprise, which has been adapted for work in the Weser estuary where the wind farm is located.

Although offshore construction is progressing according to plan, wpd have been faced with a hurdle in the form of BVT Breman (BVT) entering administration. The company signed a contract in 2015 for the construction of the offshore substation, however it has since gone to the District Court of Bremerhaven and entered into administration.

It is suspected that the company's  financial difficulties were caused directly by the €37m (£44m) substation as it cost considerably more than previously projected.

In a press release the company stated: "Administration does not in any case mean the termination of BVT Bremen GmbH & Co. KG. All necessary restructuring and financing measures were initiated immediately to enable the company to be restructured."

When 4C contacted wpd it declined to comment but confirmed that it is having conversations about the substation and an official statement will be issued by the end of the year.

The Nordergründe project is being constructed in waters with a depth of 10m within the 12-nautical mile zone of the German North Sea. Located approximately 15 miles north-east of the island of Wangerooge.
