Team humber welcomes Able & DONG alliance

Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA), one of the UK's leading offshore and marine business development organisations, has welcomed Able UK’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DONG Energy.

This MOU could see a new major operational hub for DONG Energy at the Able Marine Energy Park (AMEP) for the construction and installation of offshore wind farms.

Mark O’Reilly, THMA chief executive and chairman, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for Able UK, DONG Energy and the region as a whole.

“We have been working closely with its member Able UK for a number of years, including supporting its initial planning application for AMEP and introducing international inward investors to the site.

“The dream of the Humber being a world class cluster for offshore wind in the UK is now becoming a reality with both banks of the Humber estuary establishing significant sites and facilities to support this burgeoning industry.

“From Grimsby to Hull, space, cost reduction and UK content are leading drivers for establishing facilities on the Humber and we continue to work relentlessly on behalf of regional businesses to ensure they are positioned to seize every available opportunity to support such investments.”

THMA have also been working closely with the DONG Energy supply chain group to maximise the input of the local supply chain particularly for upcoming wind farms, including Race Bank and Hornsea Project One.

At Team Humber’s recent Offshore Wind Connections 2015 conference Joachim Steenstrup, DONG Energy’s head of strategic supply chain, said that DONG Energy is: "the market leader within offshore wind with a strong pipeline of future projects and a growing portfolio and massive opportunities."

Since the start of 2013, THMA has also been working with Able UK and its partners, and North Lincs Council, as part of the project steering group of the Humber UTC, which is due to open this coming in September.
