Tennet on track to connect Noordoostpolder nearshore/onshore windfarm

Engineering tests new links completed successfully
TenneT is ready to connect Noordoostpolder nearshore/onshore windfarm, providing 370MW of green electricity for about 400,000 households. This paves the way for the Noordoostpolder to be connected to the national high voltage grid. The final technical testing of cable links have been completed successfully.

Milestone
The test is an important milestone that establishes the grid readiness for the connection of the turbines to be constructed. The connection has taken a total of about two years and included the construction of a new substation at Wester dike, the construction of a 110kV cable Wester Meerdijk via Emmeloord Ens, the adaptation of high-voltage substation Emmeloord Zuidervaart and a substantial expansion of high-voltage substation Ens. TenneT has until the spring of 2015 to finish the work on the area where the cables are laid to in order to placate the property owners concerned.

Green power to the grid
The share of renewable power grows. The Noordoostpolder is the largest wind farm in the Netherlands regarding offshore wind construction, providing clean and sustainable electricity. The electricity will be transported through a 110kV cable via the national grid, TenneT.

About Noordoostpolder
This is a partnership with NOP Agro Wind (more than 100 agricultural entrepreneurs from the North East Polder), the consortium Westermeer Wind and energy company RWE/Essent, is claimed as the largest wind farm in the Netherlands. It will be located on-shore and near-shore along the dikes of the IJsselmeer.

Comprising of 86 wind turbines it is estimated to generate 1.4 billion kWh of clean sustainable electricity in 2015. This makes Noordoostpolder one of the leading European regions in modern wind energy.

The wind farm will also provide jobs, during both the construction and the operational phases. Options for equity participation are being made available to the residents of Noordoostpolder, Urk and Lemsterland so that they can also benefit from this exceptional sustainable energy project.
