Touchdown for Block Island

The first foundation has been installed on the US wind farm Block Island, its the first foundations to be installed into US waters and all went according to plan.

The foundation was installed by Weeks Marine Inc, who installed the turbine at 2:30pm on Sunday 26th July. The 400 ton barge crane 'Week 533' was used along with 94 'Local carpenters' to aid the installation.

According to Jeff Grybowski on Twitter, CEO of Deepwater Wind, the first foundation was installed "Smooth as Silk".

The Block Island wind farm is located 4.5km off the coast of Rhode Island, the project will install a total of 5 Haliade 150-6MW Alstom turbines with a total given power of 30MW. The project is expected to cost around $290 million (£186 million) (€ 261 million) with full commissioning expected for 2016.
