The UK Government has set out further details for the next Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction where companies will compete for the first £290m worth of contracts for renewable electricity projects, including offshore wind and tidal energy.

The application process for the CfD allocation round will open on the 3rd April 2017. Eligible projects can compete for the £290m for the delivery years 2021/22 and 2022/23.

The Government also laid out Draft CfD Administrative Strike Prices. Offshore wind deployed in 2021/22 have a price of £105/MWh and projects for deployment in 2022/23 have a price of £100/MWh.

The government outlined that offshore wind projects no greater than 1500MW of capacity may be delivered in multiple phases. The first phase must represent at least 25% of the total capacity of the CFD Unit after all phases are completed and must be completed by a date no later than 31st March 2023, with the final phase completed no later than two years.

The Government stated that the announcement reaffirms its commitment to spend £730m of annual support on renewable electricity projects over this parliament, outlined in the March 2016 budget.
