Ulstein Power & Control has been awarded a contract with AVIC Weihai Shipyard Co. Ltd. to deliver power and control units for two subsea rock installation vessels for Jan De Nul Group.

The Ulstein Power & Control delivery includes the Power package consisting of generators, switchboards, motor control centre, thruster frequency converters and motors, the automation system ULSTEIN IAS®, DP system and thruster control as well as the commissioning.

“The solutions and products in a system delivery must be safe, green and cost-effective,” comments managing director Gunnar H. Hide in Ulstein Power & Control.“With the joint effort from our Headquarter in Norway and our office in China, we managed to win the contract based on price, delivery time, functionality and system quality. We are very grateful for the trust given to us both by AVIC Weihai Shipyard and Jan De Nul Group.”

Ulstein will be delivering the products and systems in 2016. The vessels are scheduled for delivery from the yard in 2017. They measure 95m in length and have a 22m beam.

In recent news the Jan De Nul Group signed the taking-over of the offshore jack-up crane vessel Vidar, formerly operating for the German company Hochtief. The  Vidar is less than two years old and was specifically built to install offshore wind farms. The vessel is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The large cargo deck space, payload and lifting capacity of its crane enables a lift up to 1,200 tonnes ensuring swift and safe installation of foundations and other components of offshore wind farms. The vessel is 140m long and is equipped with four legs to lift itself above sea level for stable working without impact from the waves. The vessel can install all kinds of foundations, as well as the latest generation of wind turbines, in water depths up to 50m.

The vessels will be used for rock installation to protect cables and other subsea structures at depths up to 600 metres.
