Van Oord and MME sign Norther contract

MME Group and Van Oord recently signed a contract for cathodic protection at the Norther offshore wind farm.

The contract's scope includes the provision of engineers, supplies and the commissioning of internal and external Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems for the 44 monopile foundations and offshore substation of the wind farm.

With more than 10 European OWFs protected by our systems, this deal is a clear demonstration of our dedication to customer oriented, high-quality solutions paying off."

The €1.2bn Norther offshore wind farm will be constructed 23km from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge and successfully achieved financial close on 15th December 2016.

Van Oord is the main contractor for engineering, procurement, supply and installation of the foundations, the Offshore High Voltage Station and the inter-array and export cables.

The 370MW project is the third wind project off the Belgian coast to be supported under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). It will feature 44 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 turbines and will have a maximum capacity of 369.6MW. Investment totals 150 billion JPY (GBP 1.03bn or EUR1.23bn) and the turbines will be installed in the North Sea at a 20m water depth. It will be the Belgium's largest offshore wind farm, generating enough energy to supply nearly 400,000 households.
