VBMS Gemini cabling contract

VBMS has been awarded a contract to assist dredging and marine contractor Van Oord with the export cable installation for the Gemini Offshore Wind Farm.

The scope of work for VBMS includes the installation of 2 cable sections with a total length of 11 km in the transition area between the shallow and deep water sections on the route. The Gemini OWF will be built in the Dutch part of the North Sea and will become one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world in terms of size and power generation.

Gemini consists of 150 4MW SWT 4.0 Siemens turbines, the cable installation is expected to start March 2015, ahead of the cable lay a pre-lay grapnel run will take place . Construction is set to start in April 2015 and fully commissioning is set for 2017.

Cable-laying vessel Stemat Spirit is exceptionally suited for this particular job as she has the capabilities of working on anchors in the shallow part of the route as well as transforming to dynamic positioning for operations further offshore. VBMS will mobilise Stemat Spirit in mid-March 2015.
