Ailes Marines has announced that construction of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm off the the French coast will start on 3 May 2021.

The work will be spread over three years. In 2021, construction operations are scheduled to take place from May to October, in five areas located only on the northern part of the park. This was decided to allow fishing activities to continue in the southern part of the park.

The start of work in May makes it possible to avoid interfering with the 2020-2021 local scallop fishing campaign, which concludes at the end of April.

From May to October, the works will concern the installation of jacket foundation anchor piles (3 piles per foundation). At the same time, pre-slicing operations for the inter-wind turbine cable routes are planned for the period from June to September. Drilling and pre-trenching operations are carried to be out on each zone, to be finally concomitant on all the north of the field.

For this first phase, a total of eight hips are to be mobilised to support constructions works.

In an effort to reduce the environmental impact, Ailes Marines has chosen a drilling technique for the installation of piles for the 62 foundations of the wind turbines and that of the electrical substation.

The foundation anchor piles are being drilled by the company Van Oord. For this operation, Van Oord mobilise its vessel Aelous vessel.

The 496 MW
Saint-Brieuc wind farm, 16 km off the French coast, will feature 62 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, standing at 207 metres high. It is being developed by Ailes Marines, subsidiary of Spanish energy giant Iberdrola. Covering an area of 75km2 the project will be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany and, when operational in 2023, it will be capable of generating 1,820 GWh/year of electricity, expected to meet the demands of  835,000 people.
