Correll Services scores Taiwan contract

Correll Services (CS) has been awarded a contract by Seaway 7, the Renewables business unit of Subsea 7, associated with the Yunlin offshore wind farm located in the Taiwan Strait.

This project will be the third contract for CS in Taiwan. The scope of work of CS includes the termination and testing of the individual submarine composite cables as integrated service teams of the installation crews of Seaway 7. CS was previously involved in the type and pre-qualification testing processes as conducted at the inner array grid and export/landfall cable manufacturers facilities in Japan and South Korea respectively.

Once completed in 2021, wpd's Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm will become the largest single offshore wind farm in the Asia-Pacific. It is also one of the early offshore wind farms in Taiwan with locally-sourced components. It is to be constructed 8 km from the coast in the Taiwan strait, with a total installed capacity of 640 MW. It will feature 80 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines.
The first half of the turbines will be commissioned by 2020 and the other half in 2021. The purpose of this project is to alleviate power shortages resulting from the scheduled shutdown of several nuclear power plants. It is expected to power up to 640,000 households in Taiwan annually.
