On Friday 23rd April 2021, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier installed the first turbine at the Yunlin offshore wind farm off the Taiwanese coast. This is the first time an offshore wind turbine with local content has been successfully installed in Taiwan, and also Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s first installation in the APAC region.

The turbine was installed by jack-up barge
Brave Tern, 8 km from the coast of Yunlin County. “The transition piece and tower of the wind turbine were manufactured by local companies, and that the installation marked an important milestone of the localization in offshore wind power industry in Taiwan”, stated developer Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. on Friday.

The developers of the 640 MW
Yunlin offshore wind farm project reached financial close for the project on 30th May 2019. In February 2021, 4C Offshore reported that Jumbo had mobilised ships from its own Heavy Lift Vessel fleet, together with subcontracted deck carriers and HLVs from third parties, to transport the 40 monopiles, 120 monopile sections and 40 transition pieces (TPs) from yards in the Netherlands and Germany to Taiwan. Grid connection work is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2021.
