Vattenfall has chosen Hvide Sande Havn to host its operations and maintenance base for its Danish offshore wind farms. This inlcudes the Vesterhav Syd & Nord nearshore wind farms, and the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm which Vattenfall is currently servicing from Hvide Sande Havn.

Vesterhav Nord will have a capacity of 180 MW and will consist of 21
SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, each with a rated power of 8.4 MW. Vesterhav Syd will have a capacity of 170 MW and will consist of 20 turbines. Combined, the projects will supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 350,000 Danish households.

Vattenfall’s
Horns Rev 3 project is located 25-40 km off Denmark’s west coast in the North Sea and consists of 49 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW. It is expected to produce enough to power to meet the yearly consumption in 425,000 Danish households. The project is one of the largest offshore wind farms in Scandinavia, and was put into commercial operation back in August 2020.

“First and foremost, the location of the harbor is important, and here Hvide Sande is very well located to be able to service the North Sea South and North. In addition, we have been looking for a lasting, flexible partner who can be an active partner for many years to come. We have found this in Hvide Sande Harbor, ”
said Kristian Sorgenfri Jensen, Project Director for Operation and Maintenance, Offshore Wind at Vattenfall.

Vattenfall will design and develop new facilities at the port for operating office and warehouse storage. The service hub is expected to employ approximately 50 employees locally when
Vesterhav Syd & Nord are completed.

“We expect to employ a total of around 50 employees in the new facilities in Hvide Sande. About half of this comes from the North Sea South and North. We have experienced a great willingness to cooperate and commitment locally, and this is a good example of how investing in a fossil-free future can to a large extent make a very concrete difference in a local community,”
said Kristian Sorgenfri Jensen.
