MetOceanWorks to support Arklow Bank metocean design

SSE Renewables has engaged MetOceanWorks to deliver detailed metocean design criteria for the Arklow Bank Wind Park. The project will utilise high-resolution modelling techniques and will implement the latest and most robust industry-standard practices.

MetOceanWorks will be supported in delivery of the project by Cooper Marine Advisors and Forristall Ocean Engineering Inc., providing expertise in coastal processes and shallow-water waves, respectively.

Having been heavily involved in the Arklow Bank sediment dynamics study, we are ideally placed to ensure linkage between these two important topics” said Andrew Watson (Managing Director, MetOceanWorks Ltd).

SSE Renwables' Arklow Bank lease area is situated 13 km off the Co. Wicklow coastline, to the east of Arklow, and covers an area approximately 27 km long and 2.5k m wide. Phase One consists of seven turbines, with an overall capacity of 25.2 MW. It started operations in 2004. SSE anticipates that Arklow Bank Phase 2 will commence operations in 2025 and power around half a million homes each year with green energy.
