Parkwind gets Arcadis Ost permit approval

Parkwind NV has received consents for the construction and operation of the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm, due to be built in the German Baltic Sea.

The project is located approximately 19 km northeast of the island Rügen, within the 12 nautical mile zone, and marine priority area for wind turbines that was designated in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Spatial Development Program 2016 (LEP MV 2016).


The state offices for agriculture and environment for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern granted a planning approval decision to Parkwind Ost GmbH for the construction and operation of the
Arcadis Ost 1  offshore wind farm on 31st March 2021. A copy of the permit is available for public inspection from 20th April until 3rd May 2021.

The State has given consent for 28 MHI Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbines, with a hub height of 107 m, a rotor diameter of 174 m, and a total height of 194 m above sea level. Approximately 40 km of array cabling will connect the turbines to an offshore substation, which will have a monopile foundation alongside the turbines. Overall the turbines will have a total nominal output of 266 MW and connection output of 247 MW. Power will be exported to shore via the Ostwind 2 cable project currently being installed by the German TSO 50 Hertz.


Parkwind has already awarded DEME with the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract for 28 next-generation XXL monopiles which will be about 100 m long and weigh around 2000 tonnes each. These will be manufactured by Steelwind, with production starting this year. DEME Offshore will deploy the DP3 offshore installation vessel ‘Orion’ for the installation work.

Bladt Industries is to deliver the substation topside, with Semco Maritime and ISC as key partners.  Semco Maritime will be responsible for the design and implementation of the entire electrical systems while the structural design will be delivered by ISC Engineering.


The project will be the first offshore wind farm that will make use of a floating vessel for the installation of turbines due to the challenging soil conditions. This method was developed in joint cooperation with Heerema Marine Contractors and MHI Vestas.


Offshore construction is due start in 2022 and commissioning of the turbines is expected to take place in 2023.

The project was awarded a 247 MW connection in the 2018 transitional offshore wind tender. Originally steered through the auction by KNK GmbH, Parkwind NV became the project owner after acquiring 100% of KNK in 2018. When operational, the
Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm will generate enough energy to power 300,000 households.
