Century Huaxin Wind Energy Co. (CHWE), a company based in Taiwan, has entered an agreement with Danish manufacturer Welcon A/S to cooperate on fabricating wind turbine towers for the Taiwanese and broader Asian markets.

CHWE is a subsidiary of Century Iron & Steel Industrial Co., Ltd. (Century), a steel manufacturer with thirty years of construction experience. Century has been active in Taiwanese offshore wind since 2014. CHWE is in the process of building its 30-hectare facility in Taichung Harbour.

With the two companies cooperating, the factory will be able to produce next-generation turbine towers, up to 10 metres in diameter, 50-60 metres long, and up to 400 tons in weight. The companies anticipate that the facility will be open for business in 2022.

Welcon has inked several fabrication agreements in recent years, including a memorandum of understanding with Marmen for US offshore wind foundations, in December 2019.
