Ørsted contract EGST for surveys

Ørsted signed a contract with a Taiwanese company EGST to conduct three geophysical surveys, seabed mobility survey, export and array cable survey, and potential archaeology inspection. These will be done for the four sites of Greater Changhua project in Taiwan.

EGST is a joint venture established by Dragon Prince, Pan Formosa and EGS. The company carried out the general site investigation for Greater Changhua projects’ during the Environmental Impact Assessment and project development phases.

This year Ørsted commission the second-year site investigation with EGST, using local vessels Polaris and Solaris, to gather data on the seabed conditions for all potential foundation locations and cable routes.

The survey field works will start from May to July this year. The survey data processing and interpretation will be finished by end of 2018. Based on the data, Ørsted will have lessons learned meetings with the contractor, and use the data to progress the foundation design and installation, and also the cable design and installation.

Matthias Bausenwein, Ørsted’s General Manager for Asia Pacific said, “In the past two years of cooperation, our technical team has shared the global standards and requirements for offshore wind farms and elevated EGST’s capabilities for seabed geophysical survey and marine investigation technology, vessel handling and health, safety and environmental standards. Our contract today is the best example that our efforts in supporting EGST become well-prepared for offshore wind industry have already paid off.”

Hsin-Chih Huang, EGST’s General Manager, said “We are very pleased to receive contracts from Ørsted, totalling more than US$5 million, to conduct Greater Changhua the site investigation two year in a row. We also feel very grateful for Ørsted’s continuous sharing of professional knowledge and experience with Taiwanese suppliers, and dedication in developing local capacity for offshore wind.”

The Greater Changhua projects, located 35km to 60km off the coast with a water depth between 23m and 45m, have a maximum capacity of 2.4GW to be built out from 2021 to 2025 and power 2.8M Taiwanese homes.
