Ørsted sets sights on Sweden

Danish Developer Ørsted is investigating two offshore wind farms in the Swedish Baltic Sea.

The Skåne's offshore wind farm is located 22 km off the coast, south of Skåne, covering about 450 km 2, and with a potential capacity of up to 1.5 GW.
Ørsted is also investigating a 370 km 2 area, located 10 km from the coast, southwest of Gotland, for a second 1.5 GW offshore wind farm.

Both projects are in the early development phase. Ørsted are in dialogue with authorities and following their recommendations and site investigations including wildlife surveys. The information collected will form the basis for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and permit applications. The formal EIA consultation for the Skåne project is expected to be launched this spring.

Ørsted also plans to apply for a drilling permit to conduct soil investigations for the Skåne project. In August 2019 the County Administrative Board announced that the planned drilling operations can be assumed to have a significant environmental impact. A consultation is now under way regarding the content and design of the environmental impact statement. The deadline for participating is 29th January 2021. Responses will be used in preparation of an EIA for the drilling permit.

Combined the projects will have an installed capacity of up to 3,000 MW, which is enough to supply 1.2 million Swedish households with electricity.
