ØrstedAfter more than a year of construction, the Ørsted factory building in Norddeich has been inaugurated today.

The new building will be used to provide space for storage and office space needed for new projects, most notably the offshore wind farm
Borkum Riffgrund II, which is currently under construction.

"It is a special event to inaugurate the third buildings of Ørsted in Norddeich. We look forward to another important step in your success story,"
said Nordens Mayor Heiko Schmelzle at the inauguration.

"As our port location, Norddeich plays an extremely important role in our chain of operations. This will continue to be the case with the ongoing construction of Borkum Riffgrund 2 and our future projects. The current expansion is a forward-looking investment,"
said Ørsted CEO Volker Malmen in his opening speech. "Germany can not implement the energy transition without an offshore wind. With our wind farms, we want to make our contribution to their success and here, in Norddeich, a large part of this is being created."

After Ørsted decided in June 2016 to build another offshore wind farm in Germany with
Borkum Riffgrund II, the decision was made to enlarge the operations management center in the North Frisian town of Norddeich.

In May 2017, the ceremony for the extension on the approximately 30,000m² site followed. With the new building, Ørsted has already invested more than 20 million euros in the overall upgrading and expansion of the Norddeich site.

As well as offering new storage and office space, the extension has also seen the installation of a truck terminal to facilitate transport to and from wind farms. For the new storage area of 400m², flexible shelving systems have been installed.

The construction was carried out by Johann Bunte Bauunternehmung as general contractor. The company from Papenburg had already built the first building complex of the operations management center in 2015.

Ørsted has been based in Norddeich since 2013. With
Borkum Riffgrund 1, Gode Wind I & II as well as the currently under construction project Borkum Riffgrund II, the company operates four wind farms in the German North Sea. Additional projects are in the pipeline after Ørsted has been awarded the contract for the construction of five further wind farms in the North Sea at the auction rounds in Germany.

Borkum Riffgrund II is owned by Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners and will feature 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW turbines with full commissioning expected by the end of 2019.

The wind turbine array will be one of the largest in Germany with a capacity of 450MW. it is expected to supply electricity to up to 460,000 households per year.
