Ørsted has launched the formal environmental impact statement (EIA) consultation for the Skåne Havsvindpark, located off the coast of Sweden.

The project is located 22 km off the coast, south of Skåne, covering about 450 km 2, and with a potential capacity of up to 1.5 GW.

In order to be able to apply for a permit to build and operate the wind farm, in accordance with the Swedish Economic Zone Act and in accordance with the Environmental Code (Natura 2000), Ørsted is conducting a delimitation consultation on the content and design of the EIA.

The purpose of the consultation is to inform and collect information and views on the scope and design of EIA for the planned activities.

Authorities, organizations and the public, as well as surrounding countries in accordance with the Espoo Convention, are invited to participate in the consultation. A consultation meeting will be held on 20th May 2021.

Opinions received during the consultation are compiled in a consultation report which will be a basis for the design of the EIA.

Orsted are currently conducting wildlife surveys, including birds, marine mammals and bats and will soon will collect data on fish and the benthic habitats. The information collected will form the basis for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and will be included in the permit applications.

Earlier this year Ørsted was also consulting on an EIA for a drilling permit to conduct soil investigations for Skåne Havsvindpark.

Ørsted is also investigating a 370 km 2 area, located 10 km from the coast, southwest of Gotland, for a second 1.5 GW offshore wind farm. The two Swedish projects will have a combined installed capacity of up to 3,000 MW, which can supply 1.2 million Swedish households with electricity.
