NKT is finalising the contract for offshore export power cables for the first major offshore wind farms in Poland awarded by Baltic Power Sp. z.o.o. For NKT, the order is expected to have a value of more than EUR 120m (more than EUR 110m in std. metal prices) and will comprise the design and production of approx. 130 km of 230 kV high-voltage power cables for the Baltic Power Offshore Wind Park.

The export power cables will be produced at the NKT factory in Cologne, with expected commissioning of the full project in 2026. The order award will not change the 2023 financial outlook for NKT.
The order is subject to formal contract signature expected end of June 2023 and a subsequent final notice to proceed.

76 turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, will make up the Baltic Power wind farm. Baltic Power Sp. z.o.o has signed further reservation agreements with suppliers of key elements of the farm, including wind turbines and the onshore substation. The project is being developed jointly by ORLEN Group and Northland Power, with construction expected to start in 2024 and commerical operations in 2026. Polish companies are also involved in the supply chain for the project.

Earlier Daniel Obajtek, President of the PKN ORLEN Management Board stated ”The construction of Baltic Power represents one of Poland’s first offshore wind farms and is currently one of the most important projects implemented by the ORLEN Group. Commercial operations are expected in 2026 and will strengthen the energy security of the Polish economy. We want to use the knowledge and experience gained in the Baltic Power project to implement further investments in the Baltic Sea. When selecting cooperation partners, we pay attention to how their involvement will translate not only into our project but also into building a local supply chain for the entire offshore wind energy sector,"
