PixabayThe Government of Barbados has received funding from both the Inter-American Development Banking and the European Union to investigate the possibility of establishing an offshore renewable energy power plant.

The funding was given to the Public Sector Energy Program (the Program) and will be used to establish a renewable power plant featuring either an ocean thermal energy converter, fixed offshore wind, and floating offshore wind.

The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources is seeking a consulting firm to undertake a range of technical and environmental studies and has asked interested parties to respond to the Expression of Interest request by 25th July.

The ministry states that the studies will entail technological and financial evaluation of OTEC and offshore wind possibilities as we all as an Environmental, Licensing and Tourism Study.

Applicants must have either an OTEC or an OSW (depending on the power plant applied for) expert with a minimum of five years experience.

Once all the applications have been made, a short list will be created, a total of six firms will be on the list but a maximum of two can come from one country.
