BOWLBeatrice assets are soon to come under control of SSE Operational Safety Rules. The following assets will come under the control on the 30th of May: Shunt Reactor 3, EC1, EC2 (up to the transition joint bay), Interconnector Cable, OTM1 & 2.

The first EC and OTM are scheduled to be energised on the 1st of June, according to the latest notice to mariners.

Siemens carried out the commissioning works on the first OTM and is now doing the works on the second. Siemens, who designed the OTMs, claim that the structure is one third smaller in size and weight compared to a conventional alternating-current platform and can yield up to 40% lower costs.

Located in the Moray Firth, the
Beatrice project will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, comprising of 84 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The 588MW capacity array is expected to be capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 450,000 homes. First power is currently scheduled for July 2018 with commissioning expected to follow in 2019.
