Blue Water Shipping has secured a work on four new offshore wind projects with turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. The four projects include three projects in the North Sea,
Hohe See, Albatros and Borssele 1&2, as well as the U.S. east coast Coastal Virginia project.

The four projects, consisting of 183 wind turbines in total, will be loaded on to installation vessels by Blue Water and shipped out of Esbjerg. The first shipments out of a total of 47 have been completed, and the projects will continue for the rest of the year and next year. Blue Water will, in addition to the actual loading of the wind turbine components, be responsible for transfer and preparation of the components before shipment.

“We are very pleased and proud of being entrusted with this assignment by Siemens Gamesa Offshore. It is a very important project for us and contributes to maintaining and strengthening our position within logistics and stevedoring to the Wind Turbine industry. We know that our extensive experience and strong competences mean a lot to our clients in relation to the entire logistics flow”
, says Søren Messmann, Head of Operation, Port Services, Blue Water.

The
Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms are expected to be grid-connected and ready to generate power towards then end of 2019. Both wind farms are owned by EnBW (50.1%) and Enbridge (49.9%), and are anticipated to supply around 710,000 households with electricity when commissioned later this year. The 497MW Hohe See wind farm is located 90km from the shore and is to consist of 71 SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The Albatros wind farm is located a further 10km from the shore and consists of 16 of the same model turbines with an overall capacity of 112MW.

Ørsted won the rights to the
Borssele 1&2 site in July 2016, with an average bid strike price, excluding transmission costs, of 72.70 EUR/MWh for the first 15 years of the project's operation. The project will have a capacity of 752 MW, and is located 23km off the coast of Zeeland (Westkappele). It is expected to provide power to around 500,000 households once completed. Completion is currently scheduled for 2020.

Ørsted is also developing the
Coastal Virginia  is collaboration with Dominion Energy. The 12MW project is to be located in a federal lease area about 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.
