The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced a 15-day extension of the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the
Ocean Wind 1 wind energy project offshore New Jersey.

The offshore wind farm is located 15 miles off the coast of Southern New Jersey and is being developed by Ørsted and PSEG. The project is to consist of up to 98 wind turbines and have an overall capacity of between 1,215 to 1,440 MW. It will also feature three offshore substations within the lease area, located 15 statute miles southeast of Atlantic City, New Jersey, with export cables making landfall in Ocean County and Cape May County, New Jersey. When commissioned it is expected to provide clean energy to 500,000 homes in New Jersey.

BOEM’s DEIS for the proposed wind farm analyses the potential environmental impacts of the proposed action described in Ocean Wind’s project plan for constructing and operating an offshore wind energy facility.

Originally expected to end on 8 August 2022, the DEIS public comment period now ends at 11:59 p.m. eastern time on 23 August 2022.
