BOEM piques California interest

In response for its Call for Information and Nominations, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) received 14 nominations from developers who identified specific portions of the call areas in central and northern California for which they wish to obtain a commercial lease for a wind energy project.

These areas include 85 whole OCS blocks and 573 partial blocks in total, and comprise approximately 1,073 square statute miles (mi) (687,823 acres). BOEM published the list of parties it deemed legally, technically and financially qualified.

The parties who submitted an indication of interest include:

wpd Offshore Alpha, LLC
Avangrid Renewables, LLC
Castle Wind, LLC
Cierco Corporation
EDF Renewables Development, Inc.
EDP Renewables North America, LLC
E C & R (eON) Development, LLC
Equinor Wind US, LLC
Mission Floating Wind, LLC
Northcoast Floating Wind, LLC
Northland Power America, Inc,
Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA)
US Mainstream Renewable Power, Inc.

In addition to nominations, BOEM sought public input on the potential for wind energy development in the Call Areas. This includes site conditions, resources, and multiple uses in close proximity to, or within, the Call Areas that would be relevant to BOEM’s review of any nominations submitted, as well as BOEM’s subsequent decision whether to offer all or part of the Call Areas for commercial wind leasing.
