Boskalis bags first floating commission

Boskalis has been awarded a contract to transport and install five floating turbines for the Kincardine offshore wind farm in Scotland. This is the company’s first job on a floating wind farm. The contract, with Cobra Wind International, means Boskalis is responsible for getting the MHI Vestas 9.525 MW turbines to the site, 15 km off the Aberdeen coast, and into the water, at 60-80 metre water depths.

The heavy anchor handling tug (AHT) BOKA Falcon will commence installing anchors and chains on the seabed this month (September 2020).

Meanwhile, Boskalis will deploy another vessel, Fjord, as a semi-submersible barge to transport the steel semi-submersible WindFloat foundations from Ferrol, Spain, to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. These foundations have been manufactured by Navantia-Windar since March 2019. Turbines will be mounted on the foundations in Rotterdam, then towed to the wind farm location.

Boskalis will be deploying three Boskalis AHTs on the project, in addition to these two vessels. Once
commissioned, the 50 MW wind farm is poised to be the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm.
