Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded a contract to supply scour protection for the
Yunlin offshore wind farm located off the coast of Taiwan.

The award was made by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd. Boskalis will install rock on the seabed around the 71 monopile foundations serving as scour protection. In total 325,000 tons of rock sourced from local quarries in Taiwan will be installed using a fallpipe vessel. The project is scheduled to commence early 2020 and is expected to be completed late 2020.

Yunlin is one of largest offshore wind farms being developed in Taiwan and is expected to have total capacity of 640 MW. It is 73% owned by wpd and 27% owned by a Sojitz Corp-led consortium, including The Chugoku Electric Power Company, Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.

Siemens Gamesa has been named turbine supplier and is to deliver 80 of its
SG 8.0-167 DD  wind turbines, which have a rated capacity of 8.0 MW and a rotor with a 167-metre diameter. Siemens Gamesa is also to support the project under a 15-year long-term service agreement for the turbines. Offshore construction is expected to kick off if March 2020.
