CEO of MHI Vestas, Philippe Kavafyan, stated, “We are pleased that Moray East has reached financial close. With the signing of the firm order, we can accelerate preparations for our company’s largest MW project to date. Installing the world’s most powerful commercial turbine, the V164-9.5 MW, in Moray Firth means more local, clean energy jobs in Scotland and across the UK, including our most recent expansion of blade production on the Isle of Wight.” The Moray East project is progressing well: in September, wildlife surveys were completed; in October the Milestone Requirement was passed; and in November further geotechnical work began on site. Offshore construction is expected to start in 2020, when GeoSea will begin foundation installation. Moray East is a 950MW offshore wind project loacted 22km from the coast of Scotland and is the first site within the Moray Firth Zone to be developed.
In 2017 the project won a contract for difference with a strike price of £57.50/MWh. It is anticipated to generate enough energy to supply nearly 950,000 households when commissioned in 2022. For more information on wind farms globally, please click here.
