Coastal Charters aim to improve personnel transfer

Coastal Charters, a small West Cumbrian business, commissioned an offshore access solution. It aims to improve the transfer of personnel by making it safer, easier and quicker to move them around offshore.

“Since 2010 right through to the present, the offshore renewables industries are calling for ways of reducing costs by improving operational performance. Our WaveAccess solution addresses a number of operational challenges which impact upon these industries" said Stephen Beadsmoore of Coastal Charters Ltd.

The WaveAccess vessel Tenacity is a proof of concept demonstration vessel built to a generic specification which targets the transportation of 12 passengers and 1 tonne of cargo, operating within the MCA’s small workboat code of practice.

“As the operating platform and technologies become proven and accepted, the concept can be developed to optimise different primary roles whilst delivering all the benefits of the existing WaveAccess vessel. The commissioning process is proving that the speed, comfort, fuel efficiency and transfer capability exceeds our aspirations” says Beadsmoore.

With a maximum fuel consumption of 380l/hr (circa 40 knots) and a fuel burn of 100l/hr returning between 25 and 28 Nm/hr., Coastal Charters state the vessel is extremely fuel efficient in operation.
