Offshore construction has started at the CGN Pingtan Island offshore wind farm location off the coast of Fujian, China. The first monopile was installed on the 20th of December using the floating crane vessel Hua Tian Long.

According to the project developers, the site conditions are particularly challenging for foundation installation. This is attributed to complex soil conditions, high waves and a large tidal range with a short weather window for operations. To this end, a pile guide frame had previously been installed on the 4th Decemebr 2018.

The project is to have a total installed capacity of 300MW, and feature 61 turbines in total. Shanghai Electric is to deliver 4MW units with Guangdong Mingyang to deliver 10 turbines each with a 5.5MW capacity. The project is expected to be fully commissioned by the end of the year.
