Construction works for the
Moray East offshore wind farm have commenced in the Outer Moray Firth off the north of the Aberdeenshire and Moray coast. Piling operations are underway and are being completed using DEME Offshore's jack-up installation vessel Apollo.

The pin piles have been manufactured by BiFAB and EEW SPC, and will support the 100 three-legged jacket foundations supplied by Lamprell and Smulders. The wind farm is located 22km off the coast in Moray Firth, Scotland in water depths of 38- 54m.

The wind farm will feature 100 MHI Vestas
V164-9.5 MW turbines as well as three offshore substations. The generated power will be transmitted to the grid via three subsea export cable circuits to the landfall location at Inverboyndie bay on the Aberdeenshire coast. The onshore export cables continue underground to the Moray East substation currently under construction near New Deer.

The 950 MW
Moray East project is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East Ltd (MOWEL), which is a joint venture company owned by Diamond Green Limited (33.4%), EDPR (33.3 %), ENGIE (23.3%) and CTG (10%). The project secured a Contract for Difference of £57.50/MWh from the UK Government in 2017 and is due to start generating power in 2021.
