Coronavirus delays Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution

Danish transmission system operator Energinet has revealed that the final steps of the commissioning procedures for the Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution system have been delayed. This has been attributed to ongoing movement restrictions for the Swedish team members due to Corona-Pandemic.
 
Due to these special circumstances there will be some extra time needed. That means that the interconnection is expected for launch end of September 2020. 50Hertz and Energinet are monitoring the situation very closely and are making efforts to further use alternative ways to continue the individual commissioning steps and make it possible for team members to work on site.

The CGS project aims to establish a new electricity connection between Denmark and Germany via two wind farm projects, the German
Baltic 2 and Danish Kriegers Flak projects. Grid connection of the CGS is expected to occur in May 2019. It is a joint project between transmission system operators Energinet and 50Hertz.

The Danish
Kriegers Flak wind farm project is located in the Baltic Sea and will consist of two parts. Kriegers Flak A, the west section, will have a total capacity of 200MW. The east section, Kriegers Flak B, will have a total capacity of 400MW. It will feature 72 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD turbines which have a rotor diameter of 167m.

The
EnBW Baltic 2 wind farm is located 32km North of the island of Ruegen. It covers an area of 27km2 , and features 80 Siemens SWT-3.6-120 turbines with a total capacity of 288MW. The offshore wind farm annually produces 1.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity for computationally 340,000 households.
