Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), National Taiwan University (NTU) and DTU Wind Energy have joined forces to work on offshore wind education in Taiwan.

Earlier this year, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), National Taiwan University (NTU) and DTU Wind Energy signed a memorandum of understanding pointing towards a collaboration between DTU Wind Energy and NTU. The collaboration aims to develop offshore wind courses in Taiwan as well as a dedicated online course serving the continued education needs.

Last week, the partners met at DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde in order to get the project going. As a next step, NTU and DTU will put focus on developing new wind energy-related courses to be offered at NTU from Feb 2019. The courses will be part of a new MSc program in offshore wind energy at NTU.

Back in 2017, CIP established an office in Taiwan in order to get more focus on offshore wind energy in Taiwan.

“We have established CIP in Taiwan in 2017 and see a great potential here. In order to fulfil our ambitious plans we will need top-qualified staff. It was therefore natural for us to turn to the two elite universities NTU and DTU for help,”
stated CEO for CIP’s Taiwan Project, Jesper Krarup Holst.

Niels-Erik Clausen, Associate Professor at DTU Wind Energy, said: ”We have been in contact with NTU and CIP for about 6 months, and now we are ready to continue on in creating the demanded courses. We are, of course, very proud, that NTU and CIP asked us to help them.”

Professor Mao-Hsiung Chiang from NTU, commented: ”In Taiwan, we have the goal to produce 5.5 GW in 2025 by the use of offshore wind energy. In order to achieve that goal, we need to educate more people, because there will be about 20.000 jobs in the offshore wind energy sector in Taiwan by 2025. We are therefore looking very much forward to collaborating with DTU through the help of CIP.”
