Construction of the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm could run over into 2020, according to project developer Northland Power.

Located in over 100 km offshore in the German North Sea, the 269MW project will feature 33 MHI Vestas
V164-8.0 MW turbines of which 31 have already been installed on monopile foundations. The turbines were generating power by the end of September 2019.

Installation of the final two turbines is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019. However, full completion may extend into the first quarter of 2020 due to manufacturing delays associated with supplier disruptions and the potential for adverse weather.

The foundations are of a suction bucket design which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of the technology. They are being manufactured at Bladt Industries’ facilities in Denmark. According to Northland Power, despite the delays,
Deutsche Bucht remains on budget at €1.4 billion.
