Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) has announced that the third and final phase of ScottishPower Renewables'
East Anglia One offshore wind farm project has started to receive payments under the project’s Contract for Difference (CfD).

This means all three phases of East Anglia One have now passed the milestone of Operational Conditions Precedent (OCP), the contractual milestone which signifies a project has satisfied the eligibility criteria required for it to start generating electricity and receiving support under the CfD. East Anglia One (Phase 3) achieved its Start Date on Saturday 30 May 2020.

Beginning in June 2019, a total of 102 Siemens Gamesa
SWT-7.0-154 offshore wind turbines have been installed at the site, located 43 km off the Suffolk coast. Installation was undertaken by Siemens Gamesa, using the SEA INSTALLER and SEA CHALLENGER vessels, operated by DEME with the final unit being installed in April.

All turbine components were pre-assembled and loaded out from Peel Ports Great Yarmouth, following ScottishPower Renewables’ £5 million co-investment in the port to prepare it for construction and marshalling activity. The components consist of 75-metre fibre glass blades, tower sections and nacelles (the head of the turbine), which have been on view along the Great Yarmouth seafront and skyline as the 90-metre-high towers were constructed on the quayside.

Neil McDermott, LCCC Chief Executive, said: “I’m thrilled to see this third and final part of East Anglia One come online. The project’s CfD was awarded in the very first Allocation Round, so it is exciting and gratifying to recognise the significance of its last phase achieving the OCP milestone and hence the start of its full role in generating secure, reliable, low-carbon energy for the UK.”

Along with Phases 1 and 2, Phase 3 of the
East Anglia One offshore wind farm is located 43km from the coast of its namesake region. With an expected final installed capacity of 250MW, this phase is a significant step toward the project’s 714MW total capacity – enough to power over 630,000 homes.
