Edda Wind and Stavanger Engineering to develop Autonomous Mobile Robots for SOVs

Stavanger Engineering has entered into a cooperation with Edda Wind to develop and deliver Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) for its Service Operations Vessels to be active on offshore wind farms. The AMR’s will carry cargo from the warehouse inside the vessel across the walk-to-work gangway to the Offshore Wind turbine platform.

The scope includes four remote controlled trollies equipped with navigation and safety sensors for data collection. The data will then be used to develop the robotic software necessary to work in a dynamic offshore environment. The trolley with camera remote control is already commercially available and can later be retrofitted with AMR autonomous navigation.

According to Stavanger Engineering, AMR has a lifting capacity of 1000kg while also being able to climb steep inclines and overcome ledges.

Edda Wind has a newbuild program of six vessels in addition to Edda Breeze delivered in May this year, and Edda Passat and Edda Mistral delivered in 2018. Spanish shipyard Balenciaga is expected to deliver Edda Brint in the coming months.

The vessels accommodate wind turbine technicians and provide services during the commissioning and operation of offshore wind farms. All of its newbuilds are prepared for zero-emission technology.
