Moray Offshore Windfarm (West) has submitted an application to Scottish ministers for the construction and operation of the Moray West offshore wind farm.

Moray Offshore Windfarm (West), is a project company of EDP Renewables, a Portugal based company focussed in the renewable energy sector.

The application asks consent for the construction of 85 wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 285m, which will push the overall generation capacity of the wind farm up to approximately 850MW.

The proposed offshore wind farm is situated approximately 22.5 km from the Caithness coastline, at the closest point, and lies within the Scottish Offshore Region.

Within the same area there is also the Moray East and Beatrice wind farms. The 950MW Moray East wind farm is currently undergoing geotechnical investigations, being performed by the Ocean Vantage vessel. At the Beatrice offshore wind farm all the jackets for the turbines have been installed and are now awaiting the turbine components.
