EDS HV to support Welsh wind farm

High voltage engineering specialist EDS HV Group (EDS), part of the marine services company James Fisher and Sons plc, has been awarded a contract by energy company innogy Renewables to support the
North Hoyle offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay, Wales. innogy manages the site on behalf of the wind farm owners Greencoat Wind UK plc, and has tasked EDS with providing operations and maintenance (O&M) services at the wind farm.

Running from Q1, 2019, the three-year contract will see
North Hoyle's  onshore substation and export cables come under the remit of the EDS's 24/7 control centre, from which the high voltage network will be managed. EDS will provide planned maintenance and fault location services as well as emergency repairs.

The
North Hoyle site consists of 30 Vestas V8-2.0 MW turbines, each with a 2MW capacity, which generate enough electricity for approximately 40,000 homes every year. The Round 1 project was one of the UK’s first commercial offshore wind power plants when it opened in 2004.

Ryan Murphy, Asset Manager at EDS said: “A proactive maintenance regime based on condition monitoring of HV assets plays a key role in optimising efficiency and reducing operational costs. Our goal is to help clients to maximise availability in a safe manner, and at lowest cost, by carrying out planned maintenance as efficiently as possible and minimising any unscheduled maintenance. This contract award builds upon an already excellent relationship that EDS has with innogy and we look forward to continuing to provide the service levels that they have come to expect”
