EEW SPC is entering the third and final phase of foundation production and load-out of turbine foundations for the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

Nine months after the first load-out of the monopiles for the offshore wind farm, a total of 116 units have now left the quayside in Rostock.

The latest batch was loaded out aboard SAL Heavylift's crane ship SVENJA  and transported to the base harbour Able Seaton in Great Britain. It takes less than 24 hours to load a batch which consists of six monopiles, each with a diameter of 8.1m, measuring up to 65m in length and weighing in the region of 900 tons.

EEW SPC is currently producing a further 58 foundations for the third phase. Another ten shipments are due by November 2018.

Located 120km off the Yorkshire coast, Hornsea Project One will span an area of approximately 407km2. It is owned by Ørsted who recently signed an agreement to sell 50% of the project.

Currently under construction, the wind farm is poised to be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when commissioned in 2020. Turbine foundation installation is underway at the site and is being completed using
DP2 Innovation. The monopiles will support 174 SWT-7.0-154 turbines which when commissioned in 2020 will power more than 1 million homes.
