According to local media, a small explosion occurred aboard the Trenching Support Vessel Athena whilst it was berthed at Le havre last week (17 November 2022). Two crew members were injured and taken to hospital.

The vessel had been tasked to transport equipment for a French offshore wind farm development when the incident occurred. Several reports link the explosion to an air compressor during scheduled testing.

The DP3 MarinTeknikk MT6024 design vessel was built in Singapore in 2013. It was recently taken over by Asso Group in Algeciras, Spain, and was renamed Athena. She was re-classed with ABS and joined the Group’s fleet after being equipped with a 275 Tons crane and an integrated set of anchor handling and towing winches. The vessel is sailing under the Greek flag.
