FairWind has been commissioned by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to support pre-assembly work on offshore wind turbines for the Borssele 1&2 project in the Netherlands and Yunlin in Taiwan.

The work for
Borssele 1&2 will take place at the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark, with pre-assembly of 94 SG 8.0-167 DD towers planned to begin at the start of 2020.

FairWind will also be involved in the pre-assembly of 80 SG 8.0-167 DD towers at the Port of Taichung in Taiwan for the
Yunlin Project in 2020/2021.

Hervé Bouraima, Global Commodity Manager, Siemens Gamesa Offshore Project Procurement said: “We are happy to continue our collaboration with FairWind on both markets where they have already demonstrated excellent execution and adaptability capabilities. With regards to Taiwan, we look forward to continuing working with FairWind to build more local content on that important market for Siemens Gamesa.”

In October 2019, FairWind completed pre-assembly work on 20 units of Siemens Gamesa’s
SWT-6.0-154 wind turbines for the 120 MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 project. This was FairWind’s first project in Taiwan, involving the establishment of a local branch out of Taipei, including a full organizational setup. FairWind hired and trained Taiwanese technicians, conducted through its training entity European Wind Academy Sp. z o. o. and including on-site preparation in Europe.

As a result of further work at Taichung, FairWind stated it will continue to expand their team of Taiwanese technicians. The recruitment process has already begun, with meetings scheduled with candidates in early January 2020.

“We look forward to continuing the constructive cooperation we have had with Siemens Gamesa, as well as partners BMS Heavy Cranes A/S, and Sevenstar in Taiwan. FairWind’s emphasis on creating quality solutions closely with our client, supported by our global capability and track record in establishing new regions, has resulted in a successful expansion of our activities in the offshore wind energy business in Taiwan and Europe. We welcome back our technicians and site management in Esbjerg and Taichung, who have proven they can provide the quality, HSE, and milestones expected by our client,”
said Per Friis, Head of Offshore.
