Navantia, S.A. has shipped out the first floating foundation of the Kincardine offshore wind farm from its fabrication facility in Fene.

The foundation is being transported aboard the semi-submersible vessel Fjord. It is expected that within approximately 15 days the Fjord will be back to Fene to carry out the loading of the second foundation of the three that are finished.

Back in February 2019, Navantia-Windar was tasked with the fabrication of foundations for the project. Manufacturing work began in March 2019, with the cutting and bending of sheets at the facilities of Windar in Avilés.

The
Kincardine floating offshore wind farm is being built by COBRA Group, 15km offshore from the Scottish coast of Aberdeen. It will have capacity of 50 MW and feature a 2 MW turbine and five 9.525 MW turbines installed on semi-submersible floating structures designed by Principle Power. The project is located in water depths ranging between 60 and 80 metres.

The 2 MW turbine was put in operation at the site last year, in order to meet the Renewables Obligation Certificates deadline. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2020.
