Floatgen sets new record

French floating foundation company Ideol has announced that its 2 MW Floatgen  floating offshore wind turbine achieved a new record monthly production in February 2020.

Installed 22km off Le Croisic (Loire-Atlantique) at the SEM-REV test site,
Floatgen reportedly achieved a capacity factor of 66.3% for a power production of 923.2 MWh in February 2020. Ideol stated that it also achieved an availability of 95.7%

The project includes a
V80-2.0 MW turbine installed on Ideol's patented floating foundation, which features a 5,000 tonne ring-shaped hollow concrete float. The shape is designed so that water movement within the central opening counteracts the motion of the floater caused by wave swell and stabilises the structure. It is anchored by six 220 mm diameter nylon lines.

In the second half of 2019 saw the floating wind turbine already more than double its first semester power production, reaching an annual total of 6 GWh. This number was achieved because of an average time availability exceeding 94.6%.
